This invention relates to disc record players and more particularly to a disc record player having a rotary mechanism for driving a record disc or platter in turn by means of a driving shaft. When a disc record player is driven by a motor, as is known in the art, by rotating a driving shaft, the latter tends to rotate with a high angular momentum in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the driving shaft when the driving shaft has reached the position of its lowest angular velocity, so that the driving shaft may be caught by the first stationary disc and brought to a halt.
